Welcome

St. Nicholas Episcopal Church of Kapolei Hawaii has held "Covenant Group" meetings for about 10 years. These groups meet weekly for fellowship, prayer and reflection on the readings and the sermon from the previous week. This blog is an attempt to offer the prayer and reflection as an on-going basis. The challenges of schedules and more prevent many members from participating in our groups, perhaps this will allow for additional participation. I will post readings and questions - please answer the questions and contribute as you're comfortable in the comment sections. Blessings

LOOK - love your neighbor as yourself

We can love our family, our spouses, our girl/boyfriends, but they can drive us crazy too!

1.      Who is the easiest person in your family (either current family or biological family) to love?  Why?
2.      Who is the hardest person in your family (either current or biological family) to love?  Why?

3.      Have you ever shown love to a neighbor, who wasn't necessarily a good neighbor?

(don't want to mention names) 1. The easiest person is the the person that is pleasant to be around with - non-judgmental, accepting, positive, happy, etc... 2. The hardest person is the person who is judgmental and critical of everyone, is negative, bossy, etc... 3. Yes.

  2. #3 -

when we moved to Alaska we made an offer on a house after only seeing pictures. the neighborhood was nice and so was the house. we knew it was on the cul-de-sac, but didn't realize that it border a much less desirable property to the back.

the neighboring subdivision had a lot fewer rules and the owner of the property behind us had built a shed (think 3-4 car garage sized) at the very back of their property (so they didn't have to see the shoddy construction we thought). our builder had put up a fence to mask the problem, but it was still there.

when we moved in it was used for raising dogs (puppy mill?)
then it was used as a practice space for a band
one day while in the back yard we met a new renter of said shack, he pointed at 10 or so recked cars and said "I bought all these for $500!" the auto repair shop would be the longest standing group in the building.

one day as we were eating lunch I looked out the window and saw that building on fire. I ran outside, connecting hoses to one another and helped to put the fire out - Sarah brought out our fire extinguishers as well.

our "neighbors" and the fire department both agreed that we were what saved that building. somewhere in the back of our minds (okay, so we actually talked about it too) we were like, dang! that was our chance to get rid of that ugly building and all the noise and aggravation - but we both knew we did what we had to do . . . I do kinda wish they would have replaced my fire extinguisher tho ;)
